About Us
Only from the heart, can you touch the sky. Rumi
Shabahang is a non-religious, non-political non-profit organization. Since it’s establishment in 1990, Shabahang has served as a platform for cultural expression and intellectual discourse for Iranians and those interested in Iranian culture. Additionally, the organization fosters community engagement with its many events and scholarship opportunities.
Each of our monthly meetings, held on the first Friday of the month, consists of four parts. Shabahang, usually begins with the podium portion, updates on special events such as Eid Norooz and the Children’s Talent Show. A poetry reading is followed usually by an individual who would like to share their poetry (see Poets Registration). The final portion, which is the main event, involves a guest speaker/lecturer or an artistic performance.
Shabahang presents its lectures and performances in both English and Persian. Similarly, those interested in writing about the Persian culture and history can express themselves in the organization’s publications.
Teachers, scholars, and authorities in various fields of Iranian culture may be elected by the board of trustees as honorary members of Shabahang.
This cultural society has had the honor of hosting the following icons in its monthly gatherings:
